I really need your help. I actually believe Black History month is not enough and I won’t be happy until it’s no longer needed. But, this is what we have and so I intend to make the most of the one time of the year that Black History is promoted in our schools.
With this in mind, I’ve been asked to deliver my ‘Black = ?’ Assembly. ‘Black = ?’ is all about helping black students understand who they are, where they are coming from and where they can go based on the choices they make. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be presenting it in schools across Birmingham and I would love your input. I would love to hear your experiences of being stereotyped, where being black has worked in your favour, and where you have been mistreated or have missed out because of your race. How did you overcome the situation? If you succumbed, what did it teach you? What are the most common true and false stereotypes about black people?
If you or anyone you know has a story that you think I could share with my students, I’d love to hear from you.
You can get in touch Here or feel free to email me firstname.lastname@example.org
The deadline is Tuesday 13th October 2015 (Even if you’re reading this after the deadline date, please still get in touch if you have a story worth sharing)Tags: Black, black equals, black history month
